For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10).
Why does the Bible specifically point out that the love of money, not power, sex, or status is the root of all evil? There are many things that are the root of evil, for example, love of sex to the extent of being lustful, leads to adultery, abortion and prostitution. But why point out to money? Why does the Bible not say:
"The love of sex is the root of all evil"; or,
"The love of power is the root of all evil".
Money is that in the world which enables us all to obtain all earthly things. The world love those who have money. It is money that makes a person valuable to a wicked world. This is because with money, one shows that one is accomplished, able to obtain one's basic earthly needs, which is a universally acceptable need of all humans. Money is the one recognised as a universal so-called basic need, not sex, status or power.

The unsaved outside of the west are happy and content without multiple sexual relations, power or status. However, they crave for money to survive in the earthly, temporal sense. Money thrives on and feeds on human anxiety for the mere existence. It is a lack of money and the domineering power of mammon, rather than lack of sex, power or status, that universally drives people to suicide.
Mammon feeds on anxiety of caring for oneself and traps those who trust not in God, to be anxious. Harlotry does not feed on such anxiety, but rather feeds on excessive lusts of the flesh. That is why it is not love of sex that is the root of all evil, but love of mammon. He enslave and feeds on an anxious soul which does not fully trust God to do things outside the will and purpose of God. Evil is defined as that which is outside the will and purpose of God. Redefining what God's will and purpose is, is evil.
Mammon tempts us all, both unsaved and saved to seek not and lean not on God. Hence, why Jesus had to warn even his followers about mammon:
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
(Matthew 6:24-34)
