Liberalism is a worldly ideology. It is because of this, that is has crept into the church in its "spiritualised" "christianised" form. It works through fear of man that many in the modern church have. It is a trust in human "strength" and "wisdom", itself a failure to trust God. The root of it is pride, no matter how sincere or genuine it may be. It manifests itself in hyper-grace or hypocritical quoting of the catchphrase "I am a sinner" when one's heart is not really sincere. The root of liberalism is a lack of fear of God. It can work through all people, including sincere true Christians who would be considered 'conservative' by modern standards.
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28).
